Hier is dan weer een update van DownUnder. Het is nu een kleine maand geleden dat ik uit Nederland ben vertrokken en mijn vleugels hier in Sydney heb neergestreken. Maar eigenlijk voelt het nog steeds alsof het de dag van gisteren was dat we afscheid van mekaar namen. Het is nog steeds een onwerkelijk gevoel, een droom die te mooi is om waar te zijn… en dat ik elk moment weer wakker ga worden… Maar dat moment zal niet komen. God heeft dit werkelijkheid gemaakt. Ik leef een droom die ik ooit als dood heb beschouwd. Dank U Vader voor Uw Roeping… voor de onbegrensde werkelijkheid in U!
Maar goed, in de afgelopen twee weken zijn veel dingen gebeurd. Uiteraard heb ik veel mensen mogen ontmoeten die zelf ook een soortgelijke verhaal te vertellen hebben als ik. Verhalen van mensen die door God uit hun comfortabele bestaan zijn geroepen… en Hem hierin gehoorzaam hebben gevolgd. Het is echt een bemoediging om te zien hoe iedereen door God hier heen is geleid. Zo heb ik laatst een Spaanse koppel mogen ontmoeten die een paar jaar ouder zijn. De man heeft een eigen IT bedrijf die hij nu parttime uit Sydney runt. Maar voor de rest hebben ze alles achtergelaten en net als ik, uit een koffer leven. Wow, God is goed, het bemoedigt en troost mij om te weten dat er mensen zijn die mijn stap geheel begrijpen. Het is kennelijk normaal om zo door God geroepen te worden… ‘One big step for a Man of the World, one small step for a Man of God!’
Vorige week was Hillsong Conferentie 2010. Als volunteer (vrijwilliger) heb ik hieraan deelgenomen. Het was een goede manier om mijn omgeving te leren kennen. En waar ik ook geplaatst werd om te dienen, al leek het soms op eerste instantie niet iets voor mij, heb ik God’s stem steeds mogen horen. Zo was het een keer dat ik moest dienen als host bij de workshop ‘The Worshipleader’ terwijl ik zelf liever bij een workshop wilde staan over het organiseren van de gemeente. Tijdens de workshop geleid door Darlene Zschech werd er gesproken over hoe God ons elke keer weer verder laat wandelen. Dat het niet een plan is die we zelf kunnen bedenken maar dat elke stap die we maken tijdelijk is. We zullen altijd weer doorgroeien. We zullen niet altijd de zangleider zijn van een bepaalde gemeente, of een celleider van een bepaalde groep. Nee, het is altijd voorbereiding op de volgend stap samen met God. Darlene gaf haar eigen voorbeeld van hoe ze de worshipleading over moest dragen aan de jongere mensen. Hoe ze hier mee omging, soms makkelijk, soms ongemakkelijk… maar ook hoe ze heeft geleerd naar de toekomst te kijken door God’s ogen. Een ander worshipleaders echtpaar gaf hetzelfde aan en kwam met de mooie quote die u boven aan deze nieuwsbrief kunt lezen. Hoe dan ook, we moeten leren openstaan voor God’s plan, hoe onlogisch het ook soms lijkt. Ik heb in de afgelopen maanden bijna elke dag mogen leren, wat het ook is, dat Zijn plan altijd veel beter is dan de mijne… of ik het nou begrijp of niet! Just go with God’s Flow… and stop slowing it down with your own!
Het gehele week was zeer gezegend en vele bekenden hebben deelgenomen aan de opbouw van deze conferentie. Zelf heb ik via Ps. Jeffrey Rachmat (JPCC) kennis mogen maken met Chris Mendez en Joel A’Bell… en uiteraard weer handen mogen schudden met Brian Houston. Waarop ze elk ook met een bepaalde smile op hun gezicht zeiden: “We take good care of pastorskids…” ‘Well, we shall see”, denk ik dan… hahahaha.
Ik ga nu afronden want de Familie Teh, bij wie ik verblijf, nemen mij zo mee naar hun Asian celgroep. Ik ben benieuwd wat God mij hier zal gaan leren…. Just going with God’s flow…
